Metro Launches New Day Tickets

A new range of day and group tickets have been introduced for Metro customers along with savings on some fares.

The changes were announced as Midland Metro Ltd (MML), a company wholly owned by the West Midlands Combined Authority, took over Metro services on June 24.

The new fares include:

  • The introduction of a Metro-only day ticket priced at £5.50 during peak periods and £4 after 9.30am and all day at weekends
  • Reductions in some single and return fares by an average of around 10 per cent – making it easier for customers to have the correct change available
  • The creation of a new Metro group ticket priced at £8.50 during the day and £5 after 6pm and all day at weekends

As part of the handover, tram services have been rebranded as West Midlands Metro and also underway is the development of a mobile phone app to provide customers with an easier way to buy their tickets. Travel on the Metro can also be paid for via Swift – the West Midland’s travel smartcard.

Any season tickets purchased before Sunday June 24 remain valid for travel until their expiry date. No changes have been made to season or joint bus and tram tickets.

There are no changes to the Metro timetable with services continuing to operate from every six minutes during the day and every 15 minutes in the early mornings, evenings and all day on Sundays.

Along with the new West Midlands Metro website, customers can now follow @WMMetro on Twitter and WMMetro on Facebook for further news and updates.

For those needing to speak to someone, West Midlands Metro’s customer services are available on a new telephone number of 0345 835 8181.
