Changes to services due Industrial Action

The union, Unite, has notified us that their members intend to take industrial action from Saturday 15 October. On the impending strike days, we will be doing everything possible to operate the very best service that we can. Having finalised plans for the first four dates, we have been able to minimise the impact on the majority of journeys. Although it has been necessary to make some changes to our usual service on the following days: Saturday 15 and 22 October, from 08:30* until 17:00**:
  • Trams will operate up to every 15 minutes between Wolverhampton St George’s and Bull Street only
  • There will be no services between Bull Street and Edgbaston Village
Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 October, from 07:30* until 18:00**:
  • Trams will operate up to every 15 minutes between Wolverhampton St George’s and Bull Street only
  • There will be no services between Bull Street and Edgbaston Village
*Time that the first through tram will leave each terminus **Time that the last through tram will leave each terminus  Some earlier and later trams will be available on parts of the route as trams leave and return to the depot at Wednesbury Parkway. Customers are advised to check the timetable for full details. We are sorry for the inconvenience that these changes will have on our customers travel arrangements. Midland Metro Limited values our colleagues and their contribution to delivering a safe and secure, reliable and sustainable service to the communities that we serve, naturally we are disappointed by this decision, despite our extensive efforts to reach an amicable agreement. More information regarding future days of action will be shared as the situation progresses. The most up to date information will be available on our website or twitter page. Yes. We will be doing everything that we can to ensure that we deliver the best service possible to the many customers who rely upon us every day. It is likely that the service we deliver on these days will be reduced, but we will give customers as much notice as we can of any changes that are made to the usual timetable.

We have focussed on the first 4 dates of strike action and can confirm that the following service will be in operation between Wolverhampton St George’s and Bull Street only, on these days:

  • Saturday 15 and 22 October: Up to every 15 minutes from 08:30* until 17:00**
  • Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 October: Up to every 15 minutes from 07:30* until 18:00**

*Time that the first through tram will leave each terminus

**Time that the last through tram will leave each terminus

Some earlier and later trams will be available on part of the route as trams leave and return to the depot at Wednesbury Parkway. Customers are advised to check the timetable for full details.

Updates regarding the service that will be in operation on future dates for strike activities will be provided as the situation progresses.

The service that we are operating on the days of strike activity has been based on the number of people that we know will be available to deliver a service and the times that we know that the highest number of people will be travelling, therefore reducing the impact to as many customers travel arrangements as possible.

We have tried to ensure that we can continue to serve Birmingham and Wolverhampton, while delivering the most frequent service with the colleagues that are available on each of the affected days. This will allow us to accommodate the majority of customer journeys with the people that we have available.

Requests for refunds of the Metro element of tickets and passes will be considered on a case by case basis – please contact customerservices@westmidlandsmetro.com

There will be no changes to service on the dates in between the days that strike activities are taking place. A normal service will be in operation these days.
