West Midlands Metro has scored the winner in the first round of the World Cup of Trams, topping a fun poll of the country’s most popular tram stops.

The Metro’s Library stop was top choice in the Twitter poll with over 2,200 votes cast in this first round of the fun competition.

Sophia McKain, Metro Marketing and Communications Manager, said: “We are thrilled to see The Library stop come out on top – but we knew we had a very strong contender that was bound to be a popular choice.

“The Library is such a convenient destination – not only for the UK’s largest library but it’s also the perfect stop for all the facilities and attractions close by.”

Now Library goes forward to the semi-finals on 16th March, along with its rival northern group winner – Sheffield Supertram’s Meadowhall Interchange.

WM Metro has also announced its nominations for the next stages of the competition, organised by UKTram, as voting opens from today to Sunday (March 7) for round 2 on best tram livery.

Sophia added: “Our sky blue livery has proved a huge hit with customers since it was first introduced in 2018 and Metro social media followers can vote for it at @worldcupoftrams.”
