Metro ticket zones are coming to the West Midlands infographic - A simpler and fairer way to travel on the Metro

Customers set to benefit from a fairer and more flexible ticketing system

Metro ticket zones are coming to the West Midlands infographic - A simpler and fairer way to travel on the Metro

West Midlands Metro has announced plans to introduce a new, zone-based approach to their fares to provide greater fairness and flexibility for the thousands of people who rely on the network every day.

Sophie Allison, Metro Commercial Director, explained: “We are constantly looking at ways to make it easier to travel on the Metro while providing the best possible value to customers who tell us they want more flexibility – especially as travel habits and lifestyles have changed since the coronavirus pandemic.

The easy-to-understand Metro Ticket Zones will see the network divided into four, with customers only paying to travel in the areas of the network they actually need to use. The new ticket structure will provide them with unlimited travel within their chosen area, instead of having to pay for journeys between specific stops.

“The increased flexibility will also help customers to plan ahead and save money, especially as the network expands and we start to serve new destinations,” Sophie said.

“Individual and cross-zone tickets will be available on-board trams, and some will also be available to purchase using the MyMetro App. Further details, including pricing, will be announced as we approach the official launch of the zone-based system,” she added.

Alongside the zonal tickets, which are expected to be introduced in the spring, network-wide passes will remain available, as will a range of season tickets offering even greater savings for regular customers.
