West Midlands Metro is in the running for a series of top light rail sector awards after celebrating a number of landmark achievements over the past 12 months.
The tramway is among the finalists for the prestigious Operator of the Year category in the highly respected Global Light Rail Awards and has also been shortlisted for three further honours – the Most Improved System, Team of the Year, and the Rising Star award for a member of staff.
Carl Williams, Metro Director of Operations, explained: “The fact we’ve been named as finalists in multiple categories is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff right across the organisation.
“We’ve achieved real progress over the last twelve months, not least with the successful launch of services through the heart of Birmingham to Centenary Square.
“Of course, we have also been faced with the unprecedented challenge of Covid-19. But, once again, our team has delivered an impressive response by introducing a range of measures to keep the network safe while maintaining essential services and developing innovative ways to keep customers informed about the latest travel guidance.”
The award winners are set to be announced on November 11.
