New career opportunities ahead of Metro expansion

Tram in Birmingham

As West Midlands Metro looks forward to significant expansion, the tramway continues to recruit talented and enthusiastic people seeking a career in light rail.

The network operator, Midland Metro Limited, currently has vacancies for drivers/customer representatives and in maintenance and engineering, providing the opportunity to join a sector that offers a wealth of rewarding career opportunities.

Claire Scrimshire, Metro’s Head of HR, explained: “These are exciting times for the network as we plan for the opening of extensions to Wolverhampton Railway Station and Edgbaston later this year.

“These are part of a wider £1.3 billion investment programme by West Midlands Combined Authority and Transport for West Midlands that will see further expansion in the years ahead, making this the ideal time to join our dynamic and committed team.”

The successful careers enjoyed by those already involved in the network expansion, and running existing services, have recently been highlighted by Midland Metro Alliance (MMA), the organisation responsible for designing and building the Metro extensions on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), through its online careers hub, Connecting Futures In a series of videos, members of the Metro team join colleagues from the alliance to share their expertise on careers in construction, railway engineering and transportation.

The videos aim to inspire young people to consider careers in the sector and cover a wide range of roles, from engineering and landscaping to customer services and marketing. The videos can be viewed on the alliance’s Connecting Futures online hub at www.metroalliance.co.uk/connecting-futures.

“Listening to the stories of those already working for the Metro, it’s clear they share a passion for delivering a first-class service to customers while enjoying a rewarding career with an organisation that has a huge part to play in meeting the region’s future transport needs,” Claire said.

“In the months ahead we look forward to welcoming even more recruits to our friendly, diverse team.”
